One of the significant hurdles many Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) holders face after their exciting approval is securing the appointment for their TIE (Foreigner Identity Card – Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero). As of June 2025, we want to share a realistic update on what applicants are experiencing, particularly in key cities.
The Current Challenge: High Demand & System Strain
The simple truth is that getting a TIE appointment continues to be quite challenging. Demand remains high, and the systems are often under considerable pressure.
City-Specific Updates (June 2025):
- Valencia & Barcelona: We’re still seeing significant difficulties in both Valencia and Barcelona. Applicants are reporting that the online appointment system frequently crashes during the specific times that new appointment slots are supposed to be released. This is due to the sheer volume of people trying to access it simultaneously, making it incredibly frustrating to secure a spot.
- Madrid: For those in Madrid, please be aware that appointment availability is also very tight. As of our latest information this June, new appointment slots being released are already for dates quite far in the future – for instance, we’re seeing them booking out towards the end of July 2025 or so.
Why is it So Difficult?
Several factors are contributing to this situation in June 2025:
- Random Releases: If appointments aren’t released at strictly set, predictable times (which can vary by region), they often appear randomly.
- High Competition: A large number of people are constantly trying to book these limited slots.
- First-Come, First-Served: It’s a race against time. Once slots are released, they are snapped up very quickly.
Please Temper Your Expectations
Given these realities this June, it’s crucial to manage your expectations regarding how quickly you’ll be able to get your TIE appointment and, consequently, your physical card. The process is unfortunately not as swift as many would hope.
Patience and persistence are key. We understand this can add stress to your relocation plans, but being aware of the current situation can help you prepare.
We will continue to monitor this and share any significant changes.
