Requirement Update: Original and Physical Documents

September 18, 2026

Lakbyte received a request involving the exhibition of original and physical copies of foreign-issued documents as part of a Digital Nomad Visa application review.

What Happened

In one of the applications handled by Lakbyte, the reviewing authority requested physical, original copies of foreign-issued documents to verify their authenticity and continue processing the application.

The documents had previously been submitted electronically.

This was the first time Lakbyte had received this type of request in its applications.

What We Know So Far

At a recent UGE conference, the Lakbyte team received preliminary guidance on how requests of this nature may be handled.

The team continued reviewing the situation and awaiting the resolution of the affected application.

Once the case receives a resolution, it may provide a practical reference for handling similar requests in future applications.

What Applicants Should Consider

Applicants preparing to travel to Spain were advised to bring their original supporting documents as a precaution.

This was particularly relevant to foreign-issued documents that had previously been submitted as electronic copies.

For Lakbyte Clients

Clients affected by this development were contacted through their existing email threads and provided with the available options.

Lakbyte continued monitoring individual applications and communicating directly with clients if a similar request was received.

This update reflects an observed document request as of September 18, 2026. It should not be interpreted as a universal requirement affecting every DNV application.

DNV Application Update: Applying After Schengen Entry

September 14, 2026

As of September 14, 2026, Lakbyte had received eight approvals involving applicants who applied for the Digital Nomad Visa from within Spain.

Breakdown of Approved Applications

The approvals included:

  • Four applicants who entered Spain on Spanish Schengen visas.
  • Two applicants who entered using Schengen visas issued by Denmark and the Netherlands.
  • One Peruvian applicant who entered Spain visa-free.
  • One dependent who was born in Spain.

None of these cases had been denied on the basis of Schengen visa entry.

What This Update Shows

These approvals provided additional observations regarding applications submitted from within Spain following entry under different travel circumstances.

However, the outcomes reflected specific applications handled by Lakbyte and did not establish a general rule or guarantee approval for other applicants.

Entry circumstances and application eligibility should be assessed individually against the requirements applicable at the time of filing.

DNV Application Update: Further Approvals Following Schengen Entry

September 3, 2026

As of September 3, 2026, Lakbyte had received eight approvals from applicants who submitted their Digital Nomad Visa applications from within Spain.

Approved Application Profiles

The approvals included:

  • Six applicants who entered Spain using Spanish Schengen visas.
  • One applicant who entered on a German Schengen visa.
  • One American applicant who entered Spain visa-free.

These applications were not denied on the basis of Schengen visa entry.

Context for Applicants

The outcomes represented further approvals following earlier concerns about the treatment of applications submitted from within Spain after entry on a Schengen visa.

As with previous updates, the approvals were specific to the circumstances of the applicants involved.

They did not remove the need for applicants to meet applicable eligibility and documentation requirements.

DNV Application Update: Approvals and Additional Document Requests

August 25, 2026

Lakbyte received further approvals involving applicants who applied for the Digital Nomad Visa from within Spain after entering on a Schengen visa or through visa-free entry.

Direct Approval Following Schengen Entry

As of August 25, 2026, Lakbyte had received a direct approval for a main applicant who applied from within Spain after entering on a Schengen visa.

Additional Approvals Following Document Requests

Three additional applicants were also approved after responding to requests for supporting documents.

These included:

  • Two applicants who entered on Schengen visas.
  • One American applicant who entered Spain visa-free.

The requested documents concerned proof of work experience and self-employed registration.

According to Lakbyte's review, the documents had already been included in the original applications but may have been overlooked during the initial assessment.

What This Means for Similar Applications

These cases demonstrated that requests for additional documentation may arise even when the relevant documents were included in the initial submission.

All three applicants received approvals after responding to the requests.

The cases were not denied on the basis of Schengen visa entry.

These outcomes reflect individual applications and should not be treated as a guarantee of approval in similar circumstances.

DNV Application Update: Developments Following the August 14 Schengen Entry Report

August 18, 2026

Following Lakbyte's August 14 update concerning Digital Nomad Visa applications submitted from within Spain after Schengen entry, further developments were observed in several pending applications.

Approval Received

As of August 17, 2026, Lakbyte had received an approval for an applicant who filed for the Digital Nomad Visa from within Spain after entering on a Schengen visa.

Requests for Additional Documents

Three other Lakbyte applicants who submitted applications under similar circumstances received requests for additional supporting documents.

Most of the requests concerned documentation that had already been included in the original applications.

Importantly, these cases were not denied on the basis of Schengen visa entry.

Continued Review

The developments provided additional information following the earlier reports of UGE resolutions involving Schengen visa entry.

At the time, Lakbyte continued monitoring affected applications and reviewing developments as individual cases progressed.

Important Update: DNV Applications Filed from Within Spain After Entering on a Schengen Visa

August 14, 2026

Reports circulated concerning Digital Nomad Visa applications being rejected because applicants had entered Spain on Schengen tourist visas before applying from within the country.

Lakbyte shared its observations and position based on the information available as of August 14, 2026.

What Happened

At the time of publication, Lakbyte was aware of three UGE resolutions issued on these grounds:

  • Two inadmisión a trámite resolutions, meaning the applications were not accepted for processing.
  • One application denial.

The reasoning cited in these resolutions concerned applicants entering Spain or the Schengen Area on tourist visas and subsequently applying for the Digital Nomad Visa from within Spain.

According to the reported reasoning, the UGE considered this a misuse of the tourist visa and indicated that the applicants should have submitted their applications through the Spanish consulate in their home country.

What Was Not Yet Known

Several questions remained unresolved:

  • Whether the resolutions reflected an official change in administrative criteria.
  • Whether the decisions represented isolated cases that could be overturned on appeal.
  • Whether the reasoning would apply to all applicants entering on Schengen visas or only to certain applicant circumstances.

At the time, no official announcement or circular from the UGE had been issued confirming a general change in criteria.

Lakbyte's Position as of August 14

During the preceding week, Lakbyte had submitted 17 applications for clients in similar circumstances.

As of August 14, none of those applications, nor the team's other pending applications, had received an inadmisión or denial on the basis of Schengen visa entry.

Lakbyte's interpretation was that Spanish law permitted applicants in a regular legal situation in Spain to apply from within the country.

The team continued submitting applications while seeking clarification directly from the UGE and coordinating with other immigration professionals.

Guidance Shared with Affected Clients

At the time, Lakbyte advised affected clients not to withdraw pending applications solely because of the reported resolutions.

Clients were also advised to keep the team informed of changes to travel dates, entry circumstances, and departures from Spain.

Applicants were reminded to monitor their authorized Schengen days carefully.

Lakbyte reviewed potentially affected files, including visa details, entry dates, issuing countries, and other relevant circumstances.

Communication with Clients

The situation concerned 161 Lakbyte applicants at the time of publication.

The team prioritized applicants whose filing dates were approaching and those who had already booked flights.

Lakbyte continued communicating with affected clients and monitoring developments involving their individual applications.

This section documents Lakbyte's position and the reported situation as of August 14, 2026. It does not establish the current interpretation of Spanish immigration law or provide individualized legal advice.

Australia Certificate of Incorporation Requests Return to Normal Processing

June 30, 2026

As of June 30, 2026, Certificate of Incorporation (COI) requests for Australia had returned to normal processing timelines.

The reported turnaround was seven business days.

What This Meant for DNV Applicants

Applicants whose Digital Nomad Visa applications required an Australian Certificate of Incorporation could proceed with their requests under the processing conditions reported at the time.

Lakbyte continued monitoring turnaround times and sharing updates when changes occurred.

The seven-business-day estimate reflected processing conditions as of June 30, 2026, and should not be treated as a current guaranteed turnaround.

Important Update for Spain Digital Nomad Visa Renewals

June 25, 2026

On June 25, 2026, Lakbyte reported an apparent addition to the UGE portal concerning documentation required for Digital Nomad Visa renewals.

What Changed

The UGE portal appeared to introduce a requirement for applicants to provide a complete copy of the tax returns filed with the Agencia Tributaria for the two fiscal years preceding the renewal year.

This represented an additional documentation consideration for applicants preparing to renew their residence authorization.

Why Tax Documentation Matters

The development highlighted the importance of maintaining organized records of Spanish tax compliance throughout the applicant's period of residence.

For applicants approaching renewal, Lakbyte recommended keeping the following documents organized:

  • Spanish tax filings.
  • Quarterly tax declarations.
  • Annual tax returns.
  • Related supporting records and documentation.

Continued Review of the Requirement

At the time of publication, Lakbyte was reviewing how the additional requirement would be implemented in practice.

The team planned to share further guidance once more information became available.

This update describes a requirement observed on the UGE portal on June 25, 2026. Applicants should verify the documentation currently required for their specific renewal application.
